Razor Strops

All our razor strops are dual sided. There is the leather side for fine honing and the back side is heavy canvas for realigning. Using information below!

When using a razor strop it must be fastened to something so it can be stretched tight. There is a clip at the one end to fasten to a coat hook or some type of hook. The strop should be used before and after shaving. If you do not the razor will develop burrs on the edge and become dull. If you look on the back side of the straight razor it is rounded and when you use the strop you drag the back spine of the blade forward and then roll the blade edge away form the leather and reverse the process. Failure to do this will cut the strop. We will not replace a strop for any reason so be careful! Use firm pressure. The leather is the side you should use for everyday use. At some point it will not feel as sharp as it should and that is when you must use the canvas the same way. It is more firm and will push the edge back in line. After the canvas use the leather again and it should be ready to use. At some point you will need to have it re-honed. This is done with a number of sharpening and honing stones. Depending how bad the edge is a Norton India stone will reshape the edge and get it back to the correct shape. Then follow it up with a soft Arkansas stone and a black Arkansas stone followed by the leather strop. Russ also sharpens razors if needed. If you need more info always best to find an old barber, pay for a shave and ask him to explain it! Hope this helps and if anyone has additional information please send it to me!
