Packaging

Razors come in one of these two packaging styles

Blue tin with silver slip cover or traditional straight razor box

Most people do not realize these blades are still ground by hand. It takes years to develop the talent in order to do it correctly.

A high carbon steel razor is the best to use. The steel is softer and easier to keep sharp, you just really have to use the strop and if it does get away from you easier to get the edge back. It will rust and tarnish however. Only takes 5 minutes so keep it dry and clean. We do not take straight razors back for any reason. If not sharp we will be happy to re-sharpen it but once it is used, even just once, there is no return.

The stainless steel razor is a harder steel. If the edge gets away from you it is harder then the high carbon steel to get a really fine edge back on it. With experience and the right tools it is not a problem but not the type of blade in which to learn on. I only recommend these razors to experienced shavers who understand this. The advantage is the steel is "stain-less" and with reasonable care will not rust very easy. Most people do not understand stainless steel in cutlery form which means more unlikely to stain but can. The steel has carbon in it which allows the steel to be hardened and will then hold an edge. Also the carbon is what will stain. Just want to make sure you understand and any questions please email me at dan@plazacutlery.com

As for how to use the straight razor, best to go to a local barber and pay for a shave and tell him at the same time you are thinking about giving it a try. Usually they are more than happy to explain as you will be back several times! Give a nice tip!
