| Notes:
This is a new project for Gene. This is a W. R. Case pattern out of my Dad's
Case tested collection. It is cut down about a third of the size. In all my
research I could not find the pattern number and a couple of experts told me
what it was but it did not match up in any of the books. Dad did take it
back to Case and a couple workers in the 60's remembered making it, but not
many were made. So it is a unusual pattern.
Gene and I also decided to use this
pattern to launch a new project which for now is a Plaza Cutlery exclusive.
For the first time Gene has used an out side service for help with a few
parts. The bolsters and liners are all one piece and cut by Ken Onion and Jeff Park in
Kens shop in Hawaii. Also the blades were profiled but not ground. This
saved a lot of work and while many other makers do this on all their knives
Gene has always done everything himself and does not plan to change from
that. These knives are not sterilized so they are easy to identify and he
just putting the year on the back side and his name is in "Arial" printing
instead of script. These two have beautiful stag
handles. Blades are perfect like all of Genes knives with a perfect finish.
Fit and finish is flawless and they also have half stops which Gene rarely
does but I requested! Blades are perfectly centered and open easy with nice
crisp snaps and will not break your nail while opening. I could not have
asked for more. We will be doing different versions of this knife as we work
it out and when the economy picks up. So a Shadley knife at this price is
rare and it is one of the best values out there!
We kid all the time about never using
these knives but this one would be a great letter opener or fruit knife even
though that was not what was intended!
