Bertie Rietveld
Sahara Folder
"Carmel Mammoth Ivory"

In most cases this would be considered the back side but without the logo it
doesn't really matter which side is considered the front,

| Notes:
This "Sahara Folder" has another great piece of mammoth ivory! Carmel color
with plenty of nice lines running through it but not distracting! The handle
is completely smooth with no texture to it so it is very stable! The mokume
is very bold. You can tell Bertie made it for this knife as the pattern fits
in perfectly. Many knives the pattern does not follow the knife design and
is just plugged in but that is why Bertie's knives are special and cost
more. They are complete! Mokume is made from nickel silver, brass, and
copper. The
blade has a very tight ladder pattern and it appears to be sculptured into
the blade. Bertie has used a matte finish in the area around the bolster but
if you look close you can see the pattern is still there. The effect makes
the blade appear to jump out and separates it from the handle. Pretty neat
little trick! In looking down at the back of the blade (sorry no picture)
the back of the blade is mirror finished with the matte area is still close
to the blade.
There is a lot of work in this knife
and with the "Stanhope" logo in the center of the blade pivot it is no
wonder this design won "Most Innovative Knife" at the 2005 Knifemakers Guild
Show" and one of the knives "Best Art Knife" at the South African
Knifemakers Guild Show". New "Tilt: bolster and each one is a "One of
a kind" makes it a special piece for any collection! |
