                                    Kikuichi

When Ikuyo Yanagisawa moved to New York with her new husband she had already decided to bring her family's business with her. Her family dates back seven hundred years to the Emperor Gotoba who commissioned Shiro Kanenaga to be one of his sword smiths. So for the next several hundred years the family manufactured swords which bore the emperor's chrysanthemum symbol or Kikuno-mon as a mark of their excellence. Today Shiro Kanenaga original swords are considered national treasures in Japan and are on display at the Seikado Museum in Tokyo.

When the Meiji Revolution brought an end to the samurai era in 1868 the company re-invented itself as manufacture of fine cutlery. To this day the family continues to offer traditional Japanese style cutlery made by hand in the "old way" of performing their craft.

Kikuichi products are not widely available here in the United States. We are pleased to offer them as our main line of traditional Japanese cutlery. I will add more modes as I can!
