Note: This
is a very special knife\sword. I had no idea when I bought it, but after
sitting down with Phil junior he really looked it over and then we went over
each part of it. It was made in the 70's so Phil most likely had not made
any tanto's with the regular guard or very few. I had eth feeling he would
like to have had it.
1) It is the length of a tanto but
does not have a harmon or the traditional handle.
2) The handle is
the "O Alkuchl" style and has the heavier lacquered that Phil used in the
70's as it is heavier.
3) Cord wrap is a very rare style
that Phil junior remembers only being done once before. It was a very hard
style and we could not tell what is under it, most likely black code.
4) The logo on the copper is an
early style. 5)
The sheath both Phil junior and I felt was most likely reworked and the
leather and pocket clip added in the 80's. Phil said his Dad never used
pocket clips but in looking at how it is put together he says his Dad had to
have done it. It appears the sheath has been used, carried, and the knife
removed many times. But the blade looks like it has been never used or Phill
senior had to clean it up at some point as it is clean. The seem in the
leather is the same as Phill senior always did in the past.
This is an unusual piece and one that
raises a lot of question but Phil junior says it is all his fathers work. So
a vary rare "Hartsfield"!
